frequently asked questions about Tasca Stainless Steel Sinks
What is the best material for my kitchen sink?
Stainless steel is the ideal material for kitchen sinks and other surfaces that come into contact with food, as demonstrated by decades of experience in the world of professional and medical cooking, where hygiene is a must.
Stainless steel is in fact a hygienic material, essentially for two reasons: it is not porous and is more resistant to corrosion and food stains than other materials used in the kitchen. Furthermore, its surface does not flake or degenerate, thus maintaining its hygienic properties over time.
Thanks to its non-porosity, the stainless steel sink is easy to clean and remains beautiful even after decades of use.
Last but not least, choosing a stainless steel sink is an environmentally friendly choice, as steel is a material that is 100% recycled to give life to new products.
Our responsible advice: your kitchen sink is a serious thing, don't stop at the price, if behind it there is quality, respect and love for design. TASCA sinks are designed to last a lifetime, they are produced in Italy, in the Possagno plant, in the province of Treviso and the materials used are completely traceable.
What types of steel does TASCA use?
TASCA uses two types of stainless steel, defined by the international standards AISI 304 (EN 1.4301) and AISI 316L (EN 1.4404).
The first is more widely used in indoor domestic kitchens, because it is suitable for contact with food, hygienic and has a higher resistance to stains and corrosion from food compared to other materials. AISI 316L steel (EN 1.4404), also called “marine steel”, is equally hygienic and suitable for contact with food; furthermore, thanks to the addition of molybdenum and the low carbon content, it has a greater resistance to corrosion and is therefore suitable for outdoor installations.
How thick is a TASCA stainless steel sink?
TASCA stainless steel sinks have a thickness of 1 millimetre, uniform across the entire surface, to ensure solidity and reliability.
Which TASCA stainless steel sinks are suitable for top-mount, flush-mount and under-mount installation?
Most TASCA stainless steel sinks are suitable for triple installation, that is, they can be installed, depending on technical needs and personal preferences, either above the worktop (on top or flush with the worktop) or built-in from under the top. Professional installation is guaranteed for each variant, thanks to the surface finish of the edges, their flatness and non-sharp corners; furthermore, each sink is supplied with the triple installation kit.
How to clean TASCA stainless steel sink?
Although it is a highly corrosion-resistant material, stainless steel, like any material, is not maintenance-free. Fortunately, stainless steel only requires simple cleaning, which we recommend daily:
Clean the sink with a soft sponge, using warm water and neutral soap.
Rinse the sink thoroughly with running water;
Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth, to avoid water stagnation. Always follow the direction of the satin/brushing, to preserve the steel finish.
Remember our slogan: wash – rinse – dry and you're done!
Our responsible tip: immediately remove food residue from your sink with a damp cloth. This will save you from having to waste water, detergent and (…elbow grease!) to remove encrusted dirt.
How can I remove limescale stains from my sink?
Limescale can build up and cause dirt and scale to form. This is why it is important to prevent it, and one simple move is all it takes: always dry the sink after use, especially in geographical areas where the water is particularly "hard and heavy".
For the most stubborn stains, the classic grandmother's remedy is still infallible: pour a solution of hot water and vinegar with an acidity no higher than 5% on the stain; leave it to act for a few minutes, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth.
Can I use steel wool to clean my steel sink?
Absolutely not! Steel wool is contraindicated for two reasons: it can scratch the sink beyond repair, compromising its original shine and resistance to corrosion, and it can leave rust stains.
What products can I use for a deep cleaning of the stainless steel sink?
Every now and then you can give your sink a natural beauty ritual, with TASCA stainless steel cream: it is a natural product, with a creamy consistency, without abrasives and a delicate fragrance. Pour a little cream on the sink and distribute it with a soft cloth, making movements in the direction of the satin finish; leave it to act for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly and dry.
Avoid all detergents that contain bleach and chlorine; avoid abrasive scouring pads.
What substances can damage my stainless steel sink?
Products containing ammonia, bleach, chlorine, hydrochloric acid, active oxygen, as well as hydrogen peroxide, can irreparably alter the surface of the sink, even if used in diluted form. Pay attention to the chemical composition of your detergent: if the label reports the acronym “Cl” among the components, it is possible that it is harmful to stainless steel.
Microgranular cleaners and abrasive sponges can scratch the surface of the sink. Prefer liquid or cream cleaners and soft sponges.
Common acidic foods such as lemon, tomato, pickles or salt, as well as highly pigmented substances (e.g. tea bags, wine, coffee), if left in contact with the sink for a long time, can cause stains on the sink surface.
Our responsible advice: Remember to always clean and dry your sink after preparing meals: the shine of your sink will be saved!
Can I use bleach to clean my stainless steel sink?
Products containing ammonia, bleach, chlorine, hydrochloric acid, active oxygen, as well as hydrogen peroxide, can irreparably alter the surface of the sink, even if used in diluted form. Pay attention to the chemical composition of your detergent: if the label reports the acronym “Cl” among the components, it is possible that it is harmful to stainless steel.
Our responsible advice: instead of using chemical detergents, use a solution of wine vinegar and hot water. Pour a solution of hot water and vinegar with an acidity of no more than 5% on the stain; let it act for a few minutes, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth.
Does stainless steel scratch?
The life and appearance of a TASCA stainless steel sink depends on the conditions of use and daily care. Over time, a change in the surface finish of the steel is inevitable and intrinsic to the use of the sink itself, as it is subjected to daily wear and stress. However, stainless steel has the ability to heal its surface when in contact with oxygen; thanks to this reaction, a homogeneous texture is gradually created, in which scratches become less visible and which gives the sink a typical “lived-in” appearance.
For small scratches, just wait for the sink to heal itself and follow the recommendations for daily cleaning. For deeper scratches, we recommend applying our stainless steel cream, rubbing with a 3M Scotch Brite sponge following the direction of the satin finish. Rinse off the cream and dry the sink with a soft cloth.
Our responsible tip: replace metal scouring pads with coconut fiber sponges, which are more gentle and compostable. They are commonly found in the supermarket.
Does stainless steel rust?
No, stainless steel does not rust by itself, as it is an alloy of chromium and nickel. Some metal objects, such as tin cans or abrasive sponges, if left on the damp surface of the sink, can oxidize and leave rust stains; even the water itself can contain iron particles that, when deposited, can form dark stains. For this reason, it is recommended to always clean the sink after use and not to leave metal scouring pads, utensils or metal cans in contact with the sink for more than a few hours, as any rusty parts could contaminate the surface.
Which TASCA sinks can I use for my outdoor kitchen?
The LAGOON series by TASCA is dedicated to outdoor installations. The series, made of Aisi 316L Stainless Steel (also called marine steel) is available in two design variants – CANOVA LAGOON and PHANTOM BACK LAGOON and also includes a dedicated selection of mixers.
frequently asked questions about Tasca Stainless Steel sinks with PVD finish
What does PVD mean?
PVD is an acronym for Physical Vapor Deposition and refers to a thin-film metal coating technology, based on a physical process. The coating is obtained through the vacuum deposition of selected metal ions. PVD coating technology gives the surface greater resistance and durability compared to other chemical or electrochemical treatments. In addition, it guarantees a perfectly sustainable, eco-friendly and hypoallergenic coating, 100% compatible with food.
Is the PVD finished sink safe?
The PVD treatment guarantees a hypoallergenic and 100% food-compatible coating.
Unlike traditional painting or galvanizing, PVD technology is sustainable and ecological.
Can PVD sinks discolor?
The Pura Slim PVD and Canova PVD models by TASCA are 304 stainless steel sinks that have undergone a heat treatment called Physical Vapor Deposition. The treatment gives the sink its Gold, Copper and Gunmetal colors by creating a nano-coating based on metal ions.
